Round Up Church Leaders
Create “Wanted” posters, featuring members of your church staff, and post them around your facility. Set a Reward amount (a fundraising goal) for each staff member. On a designated Sunday morning, corral your church staff and set out a bucket for each staff member, labeled with that person’s name. Church members can add their change to different buckets, “bailing out” staff members and raising money for Avalanche Ranch. |

Horse Around
All you need is a church or community member who has a pony or horse and is willing to donate a bit of time and energy. (You may even find someone with a team of horses and a buggy!) Ask the church member to bring the horse on a Sunday, after church. Advertise that you’ll have pony rides for kids, with a suggested donation amount per ride. (Our experience tells us that this is such a hit, you’ll want to secure as many animals as possible so lines aren’t too long.) |

Rope a Steer…or a Pastor?
For an easy fundraiser, grab a rope and a willing church leader. Let church members pay for the opportunity to try their hand at roping a steer…or a pastor. Your church leader, decked out in Western wear, simply sits on a bale of hay about 20 feet from your “starting line.” Then church members attempt to lasso him or her. (This is easier than throwing pies and you’ll find it grabs just as many laughs. Plus it’s a lot easier to get a willing volunteer!) |

Think Pink (Pink Flamingoes, That Is!)
This isn’t a Western-themed idea, but we’ve found it raises plenty of money and gets everyone talking. Purchase 10-20 inexpensive, pink yard flamingoes. The tackier the better! Begin by sticking them in the yard of a VBS team member, along with the following note:
You’ve been flamingoed, thanks to (fill in your name. )
The VBS Team will gladly remove the flamingoes for $5 and the name of someone you think should have our feathered friends hang out in their yard. For $20 you can purchase Flamingo Insurance, guaranteeing that the flamingoes can never nest in your yard again. Just call (your name and phone number) and we’ll take care of the rest.
You’ll have families sending the flamingoes around the community for weeks! |
