Science Fair Fun

Some science experiments are so fun that folks will pay to try them! After church, set up the "Giant Bubbles, Giant Thanks" or "Turbo TP" (from the Hyperspeed Games Leader Pack), or the dry ice bubble experiment from Faith Fusion Finale. Ask for a modest donation from folks who want to have fun with these outrageous science experiments. You'll have 'em lined up!

Dewd's Digs

Set out an aquarium filled a little over halfway with water. Set a jelly jar in the middle of the aquarium, and place a Dewd Bible Memory Buddy in the bowl. Let kids and adults drop coins into the aquarium, aiming for Dewd's "digs." Those who get a coin into the jelly jar might receive a simple prize (like a piece of candy) or something more elaborate (like a Sonic Sing & Play Music CD).

Mad Scientist Search

Gather as many silly props and costumes as possible, including a lab coat. Have your church leaders disguise themselves as wacky scientists (the sillier, the better), with even wackier names-like Professor Nanobooper. Post their "names" and photos around the church. Church members can submit their guesses as to who these mad scientists really are...along with a suggested donation.

Think Pink (Pink Flamingoes, That Is!)

This isn't a science-themed idea, but we've found it raises plenty of money and gets everyone talking. Purchase 10-20 inexpensive, pink yard flamingoes. The tackier the better! Begin by sticking them in the yard of a VBS team member, along with the following note:

"You've been flamingoed", thanks to (fill in your name).

The VBS Team will gladly remove the flamingoes for $5 and takethe name of someone you think should have our feathered friends hang out in their yard. For $20 you can purchase Flamingo Insurance, guaranteeing that the flamingoes can never nest in your yard again. Just call (your name and phone number) and we'll take care of the rest.

You'll have families sending the flamingoes around the community for weeks!
